We are a recreational badminton club located in Blackburn Hamlet in Ottawa's east end. Whether you want to learn the ropes of badminton, have an activity to hang out with others, or wrap up your day with some sport, come join us!

 

We offer a Saturday program for junior players from 9-18 years old: (Junior Registration Form), and an adult club that plays on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays: (Adult Registration Form).

We also offer adult drop-ins on Fridays at $5 per session, with limited availability. Email us at blackburn.bc.ottawa@gmail.com beforehand to book a spot. Please put the date you wish to drop-in in your subject line.

Blackburn Hamlet was founded in 1834. The Blackburn Badminton Club followed a short time later…there is no record of whether the birdies used were actual chickadees! The hamlet came of age in the late 1960’s with extensive residential growth, becoming the thriving big little centre it is today. And the badminton club grew too, to as many as 150 members at times. Today’s membership is smaller (due to limited facility space) – small but vital! Throughout the decades the club has been volunteer-driven and community -oriented, with an emphasis on friendly competition and fair play, “served” with a large helping of fun and fitness. We encourage family participation and provide a supportive environment for all interested players.

Skills development has always been a big part of the club for players of all ages (from 9 to 90 or so) and levels (beginner to advanced). The Junior program has a certified coaching staff and focuses on fundamentals and fun. Most of these coaches play in the adult club and are happy to give tips to newcomers – and even to an innocent bystander every now and then! As part of the Blackburn Community Association (BCA) and affiliated with the Ottawa District Badminton Association (ODBA), the club continues to promote this excellent sport in the community and the east end of Ottawa.
